Out of B. F. Yancey’s 150 students, 40 percent are minorities and 60 percent qualify for free and reduced lunch. Many students travel anywhere from 20 to 55 minutes over winding country roads to reach their school.

In 2001 the school transitioned from a small group of PC-based systems to what is now nearly 70 Macintosh computers. Technology teacher Paula White says: “Students are now using the Macs for learning instead of ‘playing games,’ which was a problem when we had the PC-based systems.”
