My sub runs out next week and I won’t be renewing. I have constant problems backing up to .Mac and have been totally unable to publish a slideshow. I spent ages looking through the Help forums, tried the suggestions and nothing has helped. There’s no live Tech support. If I spent the same money on a real hosting solution I’d have a tech support system I could use – a human being to contact.

I’m in New Zealand. I pay a premium for .Mac because it’s linked to the Australian dollar. If it was billed in US dollars then the favourable exchange rate fluctuations would considerably reduce the cost.

The Keynote discount was good – for the elite. I can only buy it through an Apple Store. First Australia wasn’t on the list. Then eventually it was added – with no announcement – I just had to keep checking. That does me no good anyway because I’ve now discovered the Australian Store won’t ship to New Zealand. We don’t have a store here.

I feel sorely let down by Apple over this. I’m a Mac trainer and consultant. I advise many clients. I don’t think I’ll be advising many to pay for .Mac.

I’ve also had issues with .Mac support. It’t one thing not to have phone support, but when no one from Apple replies to an issue on it’s support forums that is a real problem! I would only recommend .Mac to someone if they are willing to do without tech support and just hope that everything works, which it usually does.
