Over the last year or so I’ve seen many favourable mentions of Joss Whedon’s TV series Firefly. I’m a fan of his series Buffy and Angel and sci-fi has always been a passion so it was natural to want to see Firefly. New Zealand television has taken a turn for the worse over the last month or so with very little sci-fi available, so buying DVDs was the only real option.

Now my DVDs have arrived, I’ve watched the first (double) episode and am very happy. “Serenity” introduces us and assembles what I assume will be the regular cast of nine. This rough and ready group travel around the universe picking up jobs falling on the shady side of the law, carrying six-shooters and not hesitating to use them. We have a preacher, a doctor, a “companion” and various others. I’m looking forward to the remaining epsiodes.
