Now I’ve had a chance to experiment further I’ve had mixed success with MacTheRipper. I haven’t been able to do anything with my region 1 DVD’s (my drive’s set to region 4). It just complains. I guess it’s obvious that we need to carry out the ripping on a machine which can play DVDs from the disc’s region. So, my trial with Space 1999 (R4) was a success, while Firefly and Titan AE (R1) achieved nothing.

The good news (for me) is that my Babylon 5 DVDs turn out to be not solely R2 but also R4. This isn’t obvious from the packaging which simply lists R2.
