The root user in Mac OS X is extremely powerful and not something most of us mere mortals should be fooling with. However, if you really must then the 13 steps to enabling the root user are detailed in this article along with some warnings and explanation. Warning: the root user has the power to really mess up your Mac. Don’t blame me if you do that. If you don’t totally understand what you’re doing then stay away from root.
