My clients sometimes ask me why software developers don’t just fix the bugs. I always reply that the developers are trying hard to guess everything we might do, but they can’t possibly guess all the combinations. I know of many clients who have struck the problem where Word claims the disk is full and won’t let them save that document they’ve been working on for hours. For myself, I make sure to Save As or even quit Word and start it up again from time to time when working extensively on an important document.
Once again, Rick Schaut, one of the developers of Word, has many interesting things to say on this whole topic. His whole article makes for very interesting reading, but here are two highlights.
