Let’s say we have a large number like: 249,345,678,987,234,564. Well, you may be able to say it, but once we get past a million or so my eyes glaze over and I have no idea how to say it!

Here’s where your Mac (with Panther) can help. Visit the Speech section of System Preferences and under Spoken User Interface ensure you check Text Under the Mouse. Make sure the volume is loud enough on your computer and then hover the mouse over the number. Aha! 249 quadrillion etc.

I had it working up to 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999, but after that it reverts to “one comma zero” etc.
