A little “Thanks” goes a long way.

Lisa emailed me:

I know nothing about computers. I only know how to email from iPhoto. I have a Mac laptop. I don’t know how to download my pics to anything. I have to put it in a file first before I send to Dogster, right? Help!

I replied:

I take it you have some photos in iPhoto and want to send one to Dogster. These instructions look long, but they aren’t really.

  1. Open iPhoto and click once on the photo you want to use. Go to the File menu and choose Export…
  2. In the Export dialog box click on the File export tab. Set Format to JPG. For Size choose to Scale the image. The size you choose here depends, but try setting the longer side to 600. Dogster may have a rule or suggestion for size, if so, use their numbers.
  3. For Name set it to Use filename and ensure Use Extension is checked.
  4. Click Export. Choose where to save it to (the Desktop is good for temporary use and you’ll be able to find it easily when uploading to Dogster). Enter a new name if you like, but keep it short — 8 letters or fewer, no spaces or other punctuation. Click OK.

Now you’ll have a suitable picture on your desktop and can go ahead and upload it to Dogster. I haven’t used their service but you’ll go to a page and click on a button like Browse. That will show you your hard drive. Find the picture, select it and click a button called something like Upload.

That should be all you have to do.

Lisa’s reply:

It worked! I am sooo excited. Thanks so much. You explained so simply even I could understand!
