There are some photos from the eXpo Conference for Mac Users NZ 2004 which was held in Auckland on Saturday. A couple of shots of my “Coming to Grips with Mac OS X” session are included. I think probably about 50 people attended my session, and many said they had enjoyed it. A couple later said “Now I know why …”. It was also great to meet some of my MacTips subscribers and readers of my Newbies Guide columns in Macguide.
Peter Mellow did a fantastic job of organising and is already planning next year’s eXpo. I also must thank Ken Newell from Microsoft for the special price he gave me on an Office 2004 upgrade.
The timing is good, considering I’ve downloaded (but not yet read) the two latest Take Control ebooks (see my next post) on Microsoft Word.
Mine was only one of 16 sessions, and I was able to attend three others. Marco from SubRosaSoft did an interesting presentation on aspects of file systems and drives, which convinced me to go and buy DiskGuardian at their show special price. For various reasons they couldn’t give me a serial number at time of purchase and so I left my email address with them on my purchase receipt. By the time I was next able to check my email that number had arrived. Well done guys!
It’s unusual to be able to support a New Zealand software company and I’m anticipating a more smoothly running computer once I get the software running. Marco also showed off the next version of the software (there will be an upgrade path) and it looks great. I was even able to make a small contribution by pointing out an aspect of the interface I thought could be much improved. As it stood, if several volumes were available the software would forget the selection between operations. That’s a small thing which would drive me crazy.
The eXpo was thoroughly enjoyable and it was a pleasure to be able to make a contribution.
