iPhoto plug-in allows AU/NZ users to order prints: The Shoe Box today released an iPhoto plug-in that allows all Australian and New Zealand users of iPhoto to order photographic prints from within the the iLife application. The company says it uses Premium Kodak paper for all prints and allows users to simply click the “Order Prints” to place a secure order with the company. Shoe Box says that the orders are shipped the same day, so “the majority of users will get their photos back the next day.” The iPhoto plug-in supports iPhoto 4/5.

They say they offer custom calendars — something I’m really interested in at the moment, so why am I not thrilled?

  • Well, prices are in Australian dollars, as it’s an Australian company, which will make it more expensive for us Kiwis. Local services have better prices.
  • The company’s based in Chevron Island. Never heard of it. Where in Australia is that?
  • The website seems to have a front page, a prices page, information on privacy, a non-existent refunds policy and a demo which doesn’t work. Navigation is really bad. There are a couple of scrappy looking public albums and a page for uploading files.

Why would I want to entrust these people with my photos? I can’t think of a reason. I downloaded the plug-in, but after seeing the site I didn’t try it out — if I can’t trust their web pages I’m not going to fool with their software.

Oh, and there’s no information about the calendars.

Still, that’s all just me reacting to a lack of credibility. This may be the thing you’ve been waiting for, so now you know.
