Well, Vint Cerf is joining Google: Cerf’s up at Google!.
… I will join Google on October 3 as Chief Internet Evangelist (I tried for Archduke, but it didn’t work). … Among other things, I am committed to the vision of Google’s criticality to the daily lives of hundreds of millions of people.
It was that last bit that specially caught my interest as something weird happened with my ISP the other day, meaning that for nearly a day I couldn’t reach a bunch of international websites, including Google. I had no idea I used Google so much! I was quite forlorn without it and disappointed to visit other search engines instead. In chatting with a neighbour I said surely there must be a medical term for Google withdrawal. “Cold gurkey” was her response. It left me chuckling for quite a while.

And not only how dependant we are but also how powerful Google has become.
