Excellent news today via The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW). Recently we heard that NewsGator was taking over Brent Simmons and NetNewsWire, the best RSS aggregator for the Mac. That left a very uncertain future for Mars Edit, the companion software for creating and editing blog posts.

I use Mars Edit daily to post to 4 different blogs, to another two less often and to another handful on rare occasions. It’s an essential part of my workflow. According to TUAW:

NewsGator will continue developing MarsEdit, Ranchero’s blog editor. … Brent was surprised by the passionate userbase that MarsEdit had, he knew that NetNewsWire has a great userbase, but the uproar about the possibility of MarsEdit’s demise due to the NewsGator acquisition of Ranchero was a shock to both Brent and NewsGator. … in addition to continuing development of MarsEdit, they will be hiring an additional developer who will be in charge of working on MarsEdit to add features and fix bugs.
