My first couple of hours with the new iPod video were frustrating. Transferring about 9 days worth of music, books and podcasts (approx 9 Gb) seemed to go fairly quickly, but then I found very little had actually ended up on the iPod. I tried all kinds of troubleshooting, resets, restores and so on with no success.

Copy failed.

Eventually I noticed that the copy was always failing at the same point: copying one particular saved podcast. I deleted that and all has been fine since.

Then I had to go in search of some videos. I converted one movie trailer I had lying around and downloaded several excellent tutorials from ScreenCastsOnline (affiliate link). The screen on this iPod is fantastic, and as others have pointed out, it isn’t painful to watch a video on such a tiny screen. In fact, it reminds me that a few years ago I bought a tiny hand-held TV player (second hand) whose screen was probably smaller than this and not a patch on the quality.

One small bonus was that for once I can watch something while not wearing my glasses — it’s held at about the same distance as a book.
