Plugged but didn’t play

I’d plugged my new iPod video into two separate TVs, using what I thought was the correct cable. Sound: good; picture: none.

I fiddled with the TV, plugged the cables into this port and that, switched cables, switched to an S-video cable, tried the iPod with and without the Dock. My Mac mini continued to play perfectly through the same cables and into the same ports.

In frustration I googled, I searched Apple support. I was ready to give up, and finally I found the answer: all I had to do was change a setting on the iPod itself.

Maybe I’ve become spoiled by my Powerbook — after all, when I plug in an external display it just works. So what’s the story Apple? Why didn’t my iPod just work?
