I make no secret of how much I like the RSS reader software NetNewsWire (NNW), which by the way is currently in beta for version 3, and that version 3 brings all kinds of really cool improvements. I always run betas of NNW and haven’t had any problems, but Brent, the developer, does point out that it’s beta software, so you should take care running it.

Anyway, one of the many features I love about this software is that it comes with a bunch of stylesheets, and you can add more, such as my preferred Ollicle Reflex, which has just been updated.

Having stylesheets anyway means you can choose how to view feeds, but Ollicle Reflex also adds smarts. I set feeds full of photos, for example, to use a black background, while text-heavy feeds use a white background.

Ollicle Reflex also manages to resize photos to fit in the available width: no more sideways scrolling to view the Astronomy Picture Of the Day! It also brings the title of a post into view when you scroll down far enough that it would normally be invisible.

Oliver Boermans has created a fine piece of work here — thanks.

PS: APOD doesn’t seem to have its own RSS feed. I get mine here: http://bootleg-rss.g-blog.net/antwrp_gsfc_nasa_gov_apod.php, but you could also explore page2rss.com.
