Ok, having just found I’d replied to myself, instead of the intended recipient after forwarding an email from my Gmail account I’m finally moved to say: for heavens sake! why doesn’t Gmail allow me to redirect messages, instead of just forwarding them? I routinely need to send messages on for Communitynet Aotearoa, and end up adding a line at the start of the forwarded message with the reply to address. If Gmail would offer redirect, such foolishness wouldn’t be necessary.
Then there’s one more area which is hugely lacking: stationery. Eudora’s my primary email software. I have all kinds of stationery messages set up that I can use for new messages, replies or whatever. Gmail stationery: none.
Again, for Communitynet Aotearoa, I have half a dozen standard emails I need to use every time I do that work. It’s a major hassle creating the standard replies without stationery. I have to rely on a multi-clipboard utility, or software such as TextExpander (if I’m using the Mac for email), or even just a text file with copy and paste. Boring!
Come on Gmail — you’re a very useful tool, but you need to start adding in these features that are indispensible to workers.
Hey. Welcome back.

I agree with you that the features would be nice…but at what point do you consider a feature superfluous. Too many times we have kitchen sink syndrome, and want to put every feature that anyone might or could want into a product…it isn’t pragmatic. It is this reason alone that we have bloated software packages or services that are cited as the catalysts for the “KISS” paradigm that is so popular nowadays.
Why not just use Eudora to handle your gmail. You can still access the gmail account else where when you lack your computer.
Well, that’s a good suggestion, and I do have my personal Gmail account working with Eudora.
This particular account is for a client and I actually don’t want the emails themselves or the many many attachments piping down onto my Mac. For this particular account the only way I want to access it is via the web interface.
What’s more I have to use Windows for this client and avoid having Eudora open while I do that work. I can access the Gmail account I need to work with from a web browser on the Mac or under Windows.
My point remains that both stationery and Redirect belong in Gmail.
