For the last 5 or so years I’ve been writing for the NZ Macguide magazine, but the other day I turned in my last couple of columns: NZ Macguide magazine is no more.
The now former editor Mark Webster has advised us that Publisher Parkside Media could not maintain it any longer due to declining advertising support. He also pointed out that
…the readership reached a peak last year and pretty much held steady, while tech titles are declining the world over.
Yet
…Apple use has nearly doubled in New Zealand since Macguide started, and Apple has never had such a big profile. And it’s set to grow more — here, there and everywhere. The resellers are enjoying good times, and that’s great: they work hard and margins are slimmer than they were once upon a time.
This last Macguide, a peripherals special, goes on sale 25th June. It will contain two articles from me: Mac Safety Demystified and PowerUp to Passwords.
My older Macguide articles are archived here at KnowIT.
It’s been an interesting time and I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to write for a print magazine. Times change though and I won’t be sorry to have my workload shrink a tad. I have another writing opportunity opening up — more on that when the stuff’s published.

I am devastated with this news, Miraz. I am a convert from PC and so enjoyed this magazine on all things Mac. I have learnt ‘heaps’ from the magazine and also I hasten to add from your blogs.Hopefully this new project in which you are involved will meet the our needs and fill your coffers!
Thanks for your comment Mary, and for the feedback about my blogs.
I don’t know that the new project will ‘fill my coffers’, but it does involve actual payment, so that always helps.
