Darn it! An interesting looking book from Bookmooch has no business arriving first thing on a Monday morning when I’m trying to get started on meaningful work.
So far I’ve given away 22 of the approximately 100 books I’m aiming to dispose of. I’m sure they’d go more quickly, but I’ve elected not to send overseas, except for special cases. That’s purely a cost issue — it does hurt when I have to hand over $10 or $15 or more to send a book, and if I had to pay overseas rates for every book I’m sending I’d just go broke.
On the other hand, suddenly owning a book I want to read, at no cost, and with the book just arriving on my doorstep, is a delight.
BookMooch have a simple slogan: Give books away. Get books you want.
You don’t need money — there’s no joining fee or anything. You’ll just have to pay postage costs for any books you send. Try it out.

I live in Portugal and I’m willing to send books abroad, but only too people who are willing to do the same.
However, before posting that statement on my bookmooch profile, I had plenty of people that only mooched inside their country (normally US) asking me to send a book to them. Where is the coherence?!
At least you are willing to do it in special cases, whatever those may be.
I’m in the U.S. where most moochers (and givers) reside. So I get (and give) a lot of books. Since Miraz introduced me to Bookmooch about a year ago, I’ve exchanged dozens of books with other moochers.
I can certainly understand people hesitating to ship books overseas. Books are heavy (by definition!) and can be costly to ship. It’s unfortunate, however, because it certainly does separate moochers by country or geographic area. I’ve got a book on my wishlist that’s available in India — the owner doesn’t want to send it to me and I can’t blame him. But it does make me crazy when it becomes available in the U.S. and I’m not quick enough to get to the site and mooch it!
I’m currently reading “The Children of Men,” received from a fellow moocher about a week ago.
