For the next 24 hours (or so) you can buy 1Password for US$24 instead of US$30 as part of the MacSanta promotion. If you miss out today you can still get 10% off for the next week or so.
I’ve been meaning to post about 1Password. I’ve been using it ever since Don McAllister featured it in ScreenCastsOnline (affiliate link). See SCO0078.
As I use the web I have to deal with unreasonable numbers of passwords. Not only do I have to deal with my own passwords, for things like my WordPress blog login, Amazon shopping and all those other logins we all seem to accumulate, but I also have to use passwords to access client websites and control panels and so on.
1Password makes this all very easy. It integrates with the web browsers so when I turn up to a login page, in any browser I use, I need only type the keystroke Command \. If there’s only one possible username and password (or credit card number) for that page then 1Password enters it and submits the form. If there are several potential matches then 1Password presents me with a list of choices.
The first time I use it within a certain period of time I have to unlock it, so there’s no risk of strangers rolling up to my Mac and draining my bank accounts or reading my email.
I’ve also set 1Password to automatically remember forms I fill in manually, and it offers a secure place to store various notes.
This is one of my favourite utilities. It saves me heaps of time and annoyance … except when I use software such as my FTP program that doesn’t support it. While it’s definitely worth the full price, you may like to buy while you can get a few dollars off.
