Add a photo from NetNewswire to iPhoto. There are just so many things I like about NetNewsWire. One of them is that it’s easy to add photos from RSS feeds to iPhoto: Control click on the photo and choose Add Image to iPhoto Library from the contextual menu.

iPhoto opens up, and the full-sized image is magically imported.

The screenshot shows me adding a gorgeous Jupiter-Io Montage from the Astronomy Picture of the Day feed.

Once upon a time I used to use collections of my own photos for desktop backgrounds. These days I carefully select just some of my own images and have an at least equal number of stunning astronomy images to enjoy. Thanks NetNewsWire.

The one thing that makes me sad about NNW and iPhoto is that it sends the images in TIFF format. In Safari, “Add image to iPhoto” adds the image in its original format. I hope NNW gets fixed soon, because I would love to be able to go back to using it to add photos.

Oh, OK, so it does. I hadn’t noticed.

Have you approached the developer Brent about that? he’s very responsive to comments and suggestions.

When I asked about it, NewsGator Support said that the Cocoa Image APIs made it tough to do. They are planning on changing it, but haven’t gotten to it yet.
