Let people know how to get to your offices or public event in New Zealand. [First published June 2006. Some details may be a bit dated. Update February 2008: these days I'd use Google Maps…]
If you’re running an event, or just want people to be able to find your offices, you may like to provide a map. A New Zealand map service called ZoomIn can help you out with that.
First visit the site and use the Search box to locate the street, or even building number and street, for example, the home of Communitynet Aotearoa, the Department of Internal Affairs, is at 46 Waring Taylor Street, Wellington.
ZoomIn easily finds that address, and displays a map, with a location marker. If I create a free account and log in I can permanently add a marker and description for that location, making it even easier for others to find. Try a ZoomIn search now for Department of Internal Affairs and you should find it immediately.
Once you’ve found your location click the link in the Use this map section at bottom left (you may need to scroll down). The page you go to explains in full how to add maps to your website or simply links to maps. Or you can copy the link it gives you and include it in emails, texts or printed matter. Here’s the link I created:
www.zoomin.co.nz/nz/wellington/wellington+central/waring+taylor+street/46/-department+of+internal+affairs.
Of course, it would be sensible to use the TinyURL Tip to make that URL a lot shorter, like this: tinyurl.com/efdu6.
Go further and add a photo of your location so visitors know exactly how to find you.
