New Apple Reseller in Wellington

Hmmm, there’s a new Apple Reseller in town. From an email I received last night:
…the new premium Apple reseller The Bay which opens at 195 Lambton Quay on Thursday. … There is a preview of the store on Wednesday [5 November 2008] from 5 to 8pm.

Fireworks warning I won’t be attending the preview. Between the final Leaders Election Debate on TV and Guy Fawkes night, I’ll be at home. We have 2 small dogs and 3 cats to keep in during the fireworks foolishness, and traffic on Mt Victoria is a mess every 5th of November before, during and after the fireworks.

Do your fur babies freak out over the fireworks? Last year, and the year before poor Bird was so terrified by the all the whizzing and popping and banging and what have you of the fireworks I’m sure he almost imploded. Terrible for the lil’ guy.
And good news re the reseller!

They’re OK with the big displays – we just get the big bangs really. What worries me is all the ‘personal’ fireworks before and after (though this year we’ve only had one lot so far).

We try to just keep the whole crew inside for the evening where we can keep an eye on them.

Our dog Harriet used to find her way off the property every Guy Fawkes night – presumably scared. She’d find holes in the fence that we thought was secure.

Poor old Bird…

Oddly enough your blog is the only place on the net I can find anything on “The Bay”. Odd. I would have thought marketing works a little different….

I haven’t heard anything else about The Bay either. Very odd.

The email I had came from a long-standing client – I have no reason to disbelieve him.

Well, I’ll find out at 5PM ;-)

Their website is appalling for a computer shop!! It does not even have their phone number on – WTF?!

I’m off to Magnum Mac and The Bay has lost at least $5,000 of income from me today!

Off to Magnum Mac? So you can be insulted by the disdainful attitude if you don’t come in with your pockets wadged with cash? I have been in this store several times, and because I obviously don’t fit the Mac “look” I have never even been approached to see if I need assistance. I don’t look like a wild-eyed maniac, but I have no idea what it takes to get service at Magnum Mac. I own three macs and associated paraphernalia (ipods, card readers, speakers, time capsule, airport express and firewire hard drives) and will be buying more, but not from this impenetrable bunch. And not from The Bay either by the looks. Cruised down to check it out today and the “for lease” sign is already up – in March from a November opening. Seriously? An intriguing story no doubt if someone knows what went on. Ah well, looks like more online purchases on the way.

It seems The Bay has been caught out by the current sad financial times and has closed its doors. More info at NZMac.com: http://www.nzmac.com/news/nz/the-bay-closed-after-4-months.html

It’s very sad that we don’t have any decent competition in Mac sales around here. Still, at least we *can* buy Macs ‘off the shelf’ if we want to.
