I took my car down for its regular Warrant of Fitness check this morning. A couple of hours later I had the verdict: it has structural rust and would cost more to fix than the vehicle’s worth. My car is officially dead.
In light of that bad news I’ve been browsing around for information about electric scooters. I’m more of a motorcycle person myself, but my partner prefers scooters, and we may share a vehicle if we buy something. We live at the top of a steep hill — an important consideration.
The following list reflects what I found.
ElectroScoot Electric Scooters:
The 2000W model in the EM09 style, the same style as the existing 1000W & 1500W. These scooters are recommended for the more hilly locations where the lower powered scooters may struggle. They have a capacity of 150kg. These scooters have massive 38Ah batteries. They are selling at $3400.00 plus ORC.
EVT Model 4000e. 48V DC Hub motor, 1.5 kw cont, 2 kw max. $3495.00.
Kero-K150ER 2000W 60V – 5 batteries – Extended Range – Blue or Red, slightly detuned K200 to extend range by limited current, this also keeps max speed down to 50km/h. $3,250.00 (incl. GST)
The SynECO eVOYAGER is the first Highway legal electric powered motorcycle available with lightweight high powered Lithium batteries and a 3000w – 3500w ( 3kw – 3.5kw 4.8kw peak) Watt rear hub motor.
eCruiser Alysa electric MOPED Scooter: These motors have the torque to climb any steep hills.
Swei Electric Scooter. Motor : Powerful 2kW brushless DC motor. $2,400.

They are at about the NZ$18,000 mark new in NZ. That puts them right up there but they are the Ferrari under the EV scooters.
Miraz,
We are more than happy to organise a no obligation demontration ride on the eCruiser, eRanger electric scooters and the eVoyager electric Motorbike ( Maxi Scooter ) .
eCruiser and eRanger are MOPED electric scooters that require Car Lisc.

Thanks for that information, Paul.
We ended up buying a shared Honda Jazz – with 2 dogs, if we have only 1 vehicle it needs to be a car – but who knows what the future may lead us to.
It’s good to know about the demo rides.
As gas prices rise electric scooters are having more of an interest from the public. Electric scooter industry experts say sales have doubled compared to a year ago. The electric scooter enthusiast enjoys the feeling of freedom that makes everyday commuting fun and easy. Most electric scooter models are compact and light enough to be stored easily at home, at work or wherever you might be. You can recharge your electric scooter battery on regular household current with the charger that came with the electric scooter. No matter why people choose electric scooters the increasing sales have made scooter manufactures introduce new models with new and exiting designs and features. These advances have also created a more affordable electric scooter for the public. Electric scooters are no longer just for kids. Electric scooters have been embraced by the public and here to stay.
