Add hundreds of subscribers to a WordPress blog

16 February 2009

The handy DDImportUser plugin lets you add subscribers en masse to your WordPress blog.

Things are a bit quiet around here as I’m not only helping out part-time at the fabulous Webstock, but also setting up a blog and forum to be launched in a couple of days for the new Virtual Retreats. [Registrations still being acepted — participation is by donation.]

One thing I need to do is add hundreds of people as subscribers to the blog and forum, as both are private and available only by invitation.

I’m thrilled to say I’ve found the DDImportUser plugin that makes it possible to enter a delimited list of names into a text field:

…I needed to be able to specify:

  • first name
  • last name
  • password

Another nice thing to have on the import is being able to set the WordPress user role (access level), so I shoved that in as well.

I’ve tested it with a few names on my development blog and that worked nicely. Fingers crossed that it will hold up with hundreds of names.

And can I just say how much I appreciate all those who develop plugins for software such as WordPress and BBPress. Without them I’d be in deep trouble.
