Today I decided to change the text message alert on my iPhone. I use an mp3 I created myself for the ringtone, and am happy with that. I’ve missed a few text messages recently though, and thought a more attention-grabbing sound may be helpful.
My iPhone seemed to be broken. For calls I can choose from customised ringtones, or a built-in selection of around 20, including the Sci-Fi sound I wanted to use for text messages.
On the other hand, for the text message preferences, there are 6 sounds, and no customised section. Weird.
I googled, and found what seemed to be a response from someone at Apple:
I am sorry this is currently not a feature available on the iPhone as far as adding new sounds to incoming SMS alerts.
Then I headed over to Apple – iPhone – Feedback and left this message:
I’m astonished to find that the selection of built-in sounds for iPhone ringtones is much broader than for text message alerts, and that I cannot add my own text message alerts.
Please give both the same broad range of sounds and allow both to add customised sounds.
This lack for text messages is just silly. And annoying. I really like the ringtones selection and ability to add more.
Thanks,
Miraz
