A few months ago I wrote about a new Mac reseller, The Bay, brightening up Wellington Mac users’ lives: New Apple Reseller in Wellington.
Unfortunately today the news is bad: The Bay – closed after 4 months:
Grant Bremner from The Bay has been in touch and indicated that the store has been doing well and developed a loyal customer base, but due to the current financial times, has strained its available credit lines and has had to close whilst it seeks additional capital or a cornerstone investor.
At least we can buy Macs off the shelf in Wellington, though Harvey Norman seem to have prices that haven’t compared so favourably with the online Apple Store on the occasions when I’ve noted prices.
As for Magnum Mac — I stopped giving them my business years ago after their staff were particularly unhelpful and / or rude and condescending.
The Bay had seemed to be off to a good start, with friendly staff and plenty of stock. Let’s hope they can come back from under.
Mind you, while I was in Hawai’i recently I visited the Apple stores in Honolulu. Wow! If we could only have some of them in New Zealand! They had loads of stock, with all kinds of items, perky young staff who were happy to speak knowledgeably about things Apple, and the Genius Bar that looked busy, and apparently is a wonderful thing. They were also chock full of people.
