Make Browser Uploader the default in WordPress

Sick of switching to the Browser Uploader in my WordPress Dashboard, I found a plugin to reset the image upload default.

I have a problem: it seems that whichever web browser I use the WordPress Flash Uploader just doesn’t work. If I want to add an image to a Post I have to click a couple of extra times to switch to the Browser Uploader.

The trouble is, that in the WordPress Dashboard for my blog, the Add an Image window offers the Flash Uploader by default. At least it provides a link to switch to the Browser Uploader if the Flash Uploader causes problems. It always causes me problems, so I always have to switch.

The screenshot shows what typically happens for me if I try the Flash Uploader: the image starts to upload and then produces an error.

Today I finally did something about it. After a little research I discovered the WP-CMS Post Control plugin:

With this plugin you can control the following advanced options:

  • Force standard browser upload instead of Flash upload – great if you are having trouble with the Flash uploader, this stops you needing to select ‘browser uploader’ every time if the Flash uploader doesn’t work for you!

The plugin does a load of other things too, but this image upload option is what really interested me.

I added it to my blog and uploaded an image. It presented me with only the Browser Upload option. Hooray!

That’s a couple of very annoying clicks saved.
