Macbooks aren't cheap; they are the opposite. One would think that if all this money is being spent on a laptop there shouldn't have to be the need to spend in order to solve its deficiencies. Apple can't possibly have overlooked the fact that you can't hear a video more than a couple feet away. They aren't slipshod, but they aren't above providing marginal sound output as an inducement for the consumer to spend on speakers. Not only does Apple believe there's no such thing as a free lunch, but they would also probably charge you for the containers which hold the lunch, as well as the eating utensils.
