Baby bird.
While sitting out the back yesterday I noticed a movement out of the corner of my eye. When I investigated I found a baby bird had crossed our deck, and found a wee nook in the corner of a couple of concrete steps.
I think the poor thing was rigid with fear: I didn’t actually see it move, or even blink all the while I took some photos.
Amazingly, the dogs and a cat walked right past it without seeing it.
I kept watching for it to leave again, but somehow it evaded me and just disappeared.
Baby bird.
Later there was a kerfuffle in the long grass beside our garden. A couple of adult birds were flying to and fro, crossing paths above one particular spot, and making a bit of noise.
Soon after, the neighbour’s cat shot out of the grass from the point that seemed to be the centre of the birds’ attention. I guess he’d had enough of the harassment.
It’s spring and we seem to have a large number and variety of birds around at the moment. With plenty of trees, shrubs and long grass around I guess there are many good nesting spots and lots of insects to eat.
I’m not strong on bird identification, but am guessing this little one is a Thrush. I love the way the yellow line of its beak curves just near the eye.
Hey. Welcome back.

We had a bird visitor this weekend too. A teenage blackbird flew in the kitchen window, then couldn’t find its way out. Stephen managed to catch it in his hands, and when he took it outside it flew away, apparently unharmed.
