I don’t know why, but there’s something about this tiny ‘News’ story that tickles me:
About 30 cows were blocking both lanes of [State Highway 1 at Te Horo on the Kapiti Coast] on Sunday morning, police said earlier.
But when officers went to the area the cows had moved off to a paddock.

Perhaps it conjures up that Gary Larson cartoon of a herd of cows having a cocktail party in a paddock, until they see people coming, when they revert to ‘proper’ cow behaviour.

Or perhaps it’s just that with no other information this story conjures up some ‘cow protest’ action: blocking the road and the police being called to move them along.
And just because I can, here’s a photo I took in 2004 of a cow cocky in Northland and his dog, moving his herd.
I love that aspect of New Zealand rural life.

We have open range here in Arizona. That means the cows can be anywhere. If you don’t want them on your property, you have to fence them out. A friend of mine came home from work last year to find cows all over her yard and her goldfish pond empty.
I fly over cows a lot. They seem pretty well behaved, but who know what they’re thinking? (If they’re thinking at all.)
