The only car on the road

A few photos taken from a car while travelling from Wellington to Hamilton, New Zealand.

It’s a 500 Kilometre trip from Wellington to Hamilton in New Zealand. We chose the less common route through Whanganui and Taumaranui, and it made for an enjoyable drive.

When Deb was driving I took a few photos from the car, just to record some scenery and sights.

To aid the photography I set the camera to 800 ISO. Many of the photos came out fairly well. They aren’t anything ‘special’ but I just wanted to record a few things.

I also thought some of my overseas readers might be interested in just ‘regular’ photos of the road and its surroundings.

I nearly caught a couple of shots of haymaking, but at that time I was grabbing pictures with my iPhone and just wasn’t fast enough.

The photo of Oshi the dog shows him cooling off on the tile floor at our friends’ place.

The photo of Raukawa Falls was taken from a lookout point beside State Highway 4, near Kakatahi.

While the traffic out of Wellington was steady, by the time we’d reached a couple of hours up the coast it all disappeared and we were often the only car on the road. Not bad for Christmas Eve.

It really felt like a good Kiwi journey: beautiful scenery and the only car for miles. Yeah.

Great photos. Wish I’d been a stowaway on your drive.
