On Twitter and serendipity

Twitter has a habit of juxtaposing tweets that have no relationship, except for a common word or two.

I keep noticing serendipitous juxtapositions in my Twitter stream: people whose tweets have words in common, but not in a current affairs or trending way. Of course, I’m not including simple words such as ‘the’ or ‘and’.

Tweet coincidences: fish.

Tweet coincidences: fish.

Take these two tweets, for example that were immediately adjacent in my stream, both about ‘fish’:

lancewiggs: Waiting for order number 222 at Ohiwa’s primo fish and chips shop

Followed by:

RobCottingham: Feed a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. Feed the man to the fish, and you’ll be the fish’s friend for life.

Or this, where ‘bacon’ is the common point:

Tweets juxtaposed: bacon.

Tweets juxtaposed: bacon.

nzlemming: Excellent! How to baconify your bourbon: http://tr.im/Hgmg

Followed by:

thequotemaster: “There is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion.” Francis Bacon

I notice these serendipitous juxtapositions often. How about you? Seen any fun juxtapositions in your Twitter stream recently?

Well, right now in my Twitter stream I’m looking at a very perky Californian post about the joys of exercise and health, which is right on top of a very Scottish post about savouring the joy of still getting sh*tfaced on Christmas booze on 5 January. Just perfect.

Heh. I find so many of these juxtapositions. They add a little zing to the day. :-)
