The iPod touch is hot now

Did you become the proud owner of an iPod touch recently? You’re not the only one, as my most popular MacTips tutorial shows.

iPod touch was the hot Christmas present this year:

Traffic from the iPhone touch – one of the best selling holiday gifts – doubled on Christmas alone and was 3.4 times higher in December [2009] than in November.

I suspected as much because my MacTips website had a big surge in traffic on 26 December 2009, accounted for by a single post: Arrange Application icons on the iPhone or iPod touch.

There were 152 views on 24 December and 761 on 26 December (NZ time).

What’s more, visitors were actually using their iPod to view the Tip: 24 of them on the 24th and 152 of them on the 26th. Visits by iPhone users doubled in the same period, but the major growth was clearly from iPod touch users.

It’s very exciting to see this spike in the number of visitors to MacTips. I’ve worked long and hard on that site, producing one new, practical lesson each week for people who use Apple products.

Each Tip takes me anywhere from 2 to 6 hours to create, especially now I’ve added in videos.

I have some exciting ideas for new MacTips products and services in 2010. I spent last year upgrading the website: making sure old, lost screenshots were restored, improving the look and feel and generally giving it a ‘tune up’. It paid off, too, as views tripled over the year to 35,000 views per month.

Now it’s time to expand the offerings.

What would you like to see over at MacTips? How can the site better help you use Apple products such as the iPhone, MacBook, iMac to have more fun or more productivity in your day?

I’d love to see your comments.

And, by the way: if you provide a Mac-related product or service I’d like to chat with you about how MacTips can help you spread the message.
