It’s not even slightly hard to get me ranting about banks. I’ll keep this one short though.
Today I set up a one-off payment to transfer money today from my ASB standard account to my Westpac Visa account. It was easy to set up. I’ve done it many times before.
It’s the message at the end, and what happens next that really annoys me though:
I like it that the bank confirm the amount I’ve paid and all that, but why should I allow
up to 2 working days to process the payment?
I know from experience, too, that this isn’t just an all-purpose caution for a payment that really goes through straight away. No: it takes several days for the payment to show up in my Visa account.
What happens? Do they strap the cash to snails to carry it to the other bank?
The money certainly goes out of my bank account instantly. It must be somewhere in those days before it is deposited to the credit card account.
There’s one other small factor in favour of my ‘snail’ theory: I can’t schedule transfers or payments for a weekend or public holiday. Those snails must be hard-core work-to-rule unionists. I guess the bank won’t pay them overtime rates.
