Sort out those tiny Finder Sidebar icons

The tiny icons in the Finder Sidebar are an annoying anomaly.

I recently received an interesting question from a MacTips reader:

Under Snow Leopard 10.6.3, is it possible to enlarge the icons on the sidebar of the windows ?

What an excellent question! Those icons are pretty tiny.

While it’s easy to change the size of text or icons in the main part of the window — use View Options — I certainly couldn’t find a way to resize the Sidebar icons.

Some googling quickly showed that many people have asked this question and the general consensus is that it can’t be done.

PathFinder offers immense customisation

I’ve long used PathFinder, a Finder replacement from CocoaTech.

PathFinder allows for all kinds of customisation, and adds many useful features way beyond what the Finder can offer.

To increase the Sidebar icon size in PathFinder, Click on the gear icon at the bottom of the Sidebar and choose Preferences…

In the sheet that appears turn the icon size ‘dial’ to change the size.

PathFinder’s one of my essential pieces of software.
