As the dogs and I approached the beach this morning we could see the tide was quite high, water all muddy with sand roiled up by the high winds.
But there were also horses, what turned out to be lots of horses, in a trail riding event.
There were riders in twos and three going up and down the beach, in no particular haste. Some gave us a friendly wave while others were too focussed on what they were doing. The dogs, of course, stayed on the lead for our walk.
Sasha’s fascinated by horses. She likes to look at them, wants to get close, and several times wouldn’t let us walk on until a horse behind us had gone by. And let’s not mention horse poop…
Although the wind had dropped a bit since yesterday — it’s down to around 40 Kph now — it was still a bit blustery and we were fairly relieved to get back to the road behind the first row of dunes.
Closer to home was another horse. She’s in a paddock near our bach, seems to have lost the companion that’s often there with her and seems lonely, hanging out in a corner by the road. After dropping the dogs off I went for a bit more of a walk by myself and stopped to say hello. She very kindly let me take a photo. I think it makes a fine profile, and told her so.
