Before I went to the meeting I spent several frustrating hours trying to update from the preinstalled 10.1 to 10.1.2. Actually, my main interest was in getting iPhoto working, but it needed me to update my OS. First I downloaded iPhoto and the update file and transferred them from my Powerbook to the iBook. When I tried to run the Update though it told me I needed an Installer update file so I got that.
Now the problem was that when I tried to use the Installer Update it would get me as far as needing to choose a disc to install onto, but not letting me choose a disc. No matter what I tried, and I don’t yet know much to try, I couldn’t make it work.
It turned out that I needed yet another update before that: a Security Update. I was also advised to restart the computer before trying to install the OS Update. Once I did the Security Update followed by the Installer Update and a restart, I was finally able to do the OS Update and install iPhoto. Whew!
