I enjoy reading fan fiction and there’s some mighty good writing out there. One I’m enjoying at the moment is The Wrong Trail Knife by Jane Fletcher. The story’s set in an interesting world and maintains interest easily. I started listening to this story some time ago but with being busy it had fallen to one side. Now on holiday I’m catching up on the rest of it.
So here’s the thing: even though the voice Vicki is easier on the ear for system alerts and the like it’s just not suitable for talking books. The other day I managed to convert about 10 chapters to speech using Vicki, and last night reached the first such chapter. It took only two sentences for me to turn it off! Now I’m back to converting them again, this time with Victoria. With iSpeakIt at least, it seems the overall system voice is the only option for text-to-speech conversions. My experiments with other software haven’t gone well before now, but perhaps now I have some spare time I should try again.
