These days when I’m working at home rather than out and about on appointments I have two fixed items in my diary every day: Tech TV’s “Call for Help” and “The Screen Savers”. These are enjoyable and informative shows about “things tech”, especially, but not only computers. Today’s news though is twofold: Leo Laporte is leaving The Screen Savers, and TechTV has been sold to another company.
Luckily the rest of the on-screen team on the show are excellent, but Leo brought a “genial host” element, along with an age factor appreciated by us middle-aged viewers. Good thing he’s staying on with Call for Help.
More worrying is that TechTV has been sold to another company. It’s a rare treat to have a TV channel about technology. Having found it, I’d hate to lose it. With the free-to-air channels filled with so-called “Reality” TV (it’s nothing like my reality) and sci-fi fading from the screens it seems I may soon be relying heavily on my expanding DVD collection for entertainment.
