There’s a site I really enjoy reading but of late I’ve started to find some of the language offensive. Yes, I’m a tender wee thing who’s not really into cussing and swearing. What’s more, with a degree in German and English, I lean towards the belief that there are more than enough words in our language to express pretty well any concept without delving too heavily into the four-lettered section of the dictionary.
Of course a good, round [insert vulgarity of choice] is highly appropriate when you find someone’s stolen all 4 wheels off your newish (second-hand) car (July 98) or jemmied the driver’s door, shattering the window (Sept 98) or scraping the front corner (April 2002) — a mere three events in a string of a good dozen or more in the seven years I’ve had this car.
Now I don’t even bother fixing the damage unless the perpetrator owns up and pays for it or I need to fix it for safety or comfort reasons. I just can’t afford to keep my car looking good and I lost my “no claims” bonus from the insurance company after the first three claims.
Anyway, I digress. I sent an email to the owner of the site I was having problems with and he has responded very swiftly indeed by making some changes to his posts. These have clearly involved a thesaurus and an excellent sense of humour. The power of email …
