It must be my lucky week. I backed up my data on Tuesday morning then worked very hard on Tuesday and Wednesday, mainly on information which ended up on various websites. Wednesday night I was just sorting out a project I was beginning when my hard drive started to sound like a jet aircraft and then failed, totally. It’s ten months old and well within the standard warranty.
It looks as though that drive is totally beyond help, but hey! I have a recent backup of most of my stuff (not, it seems, a whole swag of really cool Applescripts I’ve toiled over during the last few weeks) and most of the work I’d done for two days is on various web pages — a backup of sorts in its own right.
Meanwhile I’ve retreated to my aged Titanium Powerbook where everything’s a bit out of date: software’s generally a version or two old and a few items I use all the time don’t seem to be there at all. I’ve restored minimal data from my backup as I’m hoping not to be here too long. With any luck the techies at Magnum Mac can replace the drive quickly — I’ll be heading off down there soon. I’d like to have the machine functioning again by the weekend.
