About three weeks ago Greens co-leader Rod Donald was sitting on our deck chatting on his cellphone. That was the first time he’d been to our house, and it turns out it was also the last. He died unexpectedly last night.
Death can be so sudden and shocking. I hardly knew Rod — I’d met him a couple of times at my partner’s work functions, but he seemed pleasant and personable. He was about my age — a couple of years younger, in fact, and was cheerful and open on the few occasions I met him.
Even though my connection to him was remote, and mainly because of my partner’s work, I still feel the shock of his unexpected loss. My thoughts go out to his family and friends, and of course the members and associates of the Green Party who will sorely miss him.
