Yesterday morning we went out relatively early and did a 7 Km walk through Te Kopahou Reserve from the wind turbine (click on the first picture below for a clearer view) to the ‘golf ball’ — the Hawkins Hill VHF transmitting station.
It’s been years since I did that walk and I’d forgotten about the fabulously stunning views.
One of my favourite moments was when we were ‘chatting’ with some ostriches on a farm beside the road. Suddenly the pair became all agitated and ran off behind a hill. We hadn’t done anything.
Then a tour van came from behind us, pulled up at the fence, stayed a while and went on its way. The ostriches reappeared and all was well again.
The walk was about 7 Km as a round trip. The wind turbine’s at about 370 metres and the golf ball at about 480 metres. It’s a nice, easy walk on a road with almost no traffic. I can recommend it. [Click any picture for a larger version.]
