This time last year my partner had one of my photos put on canvas for me as a birthday present. It turned out beautifully — visitors have commented on it, and I’ve had a whole year of enjoying it on the wall. Now, 12 months on, I decided to give myself the birthday present of having another put on canvas. The timing’s nice, since Frogprints are kind enough to offer a Valentine’s Day discount.
It’s taken me a week to decide on the photo to use, but it seems fitting that this photo of a tug boat on Wellington Harbour, taken on my birthday last year, would be the final choice.
I tried putting it into Photoshop and playing around with levels, brightness and contrast, but eventually came to the conclusion I liked it best straight out of the camera. This small canvas-textured version doesn’t show it so well, but I like the deep blue of the sea, the relative darkness of the sky and hills behind, while the tug itself has caught some sunshine and is moving off to do its work.
It’ll be a week or so till the finished product arrives, and then I have to decide where to hang it. Hmmmm.
