This seems to be a year for things blowing up, and breaking in general. A few weeks ago the electric weedeater suddenly lost all power and smoke curled out of the motor. I was working on some longer, rougher grass at the time, but nothing that should have killed a machine less than a year old.
Next up was an Airport Express that just stopped working. I bought a replacement and when my pal Oliver opened up the old one there were the telltale signs of blackening.
Probably well over a year ago I bought a cheap electric sander to help with maintaining all the wooden doors and windows around the place. We need to oil or polyurethane them fairly often. Well, last year was very busy and I only opened the package yesterday to make a start on some long overdue maintenance. I’ve never used a sander before so I read all the instructions carefully and followed them assiduously. The sander lasted less than 5 minutes before it lost power, followed by smoke and then actual flames. There was no question it had blown up.
