I was down by the waterfront yesterday for a dentist’s appointment and attending to a few errands. These days I find it convenient to park in a 2 hour free parking area and walk to my appointments — it saves me exorbitant parking fees and gets my exercise in too. After dealing to my messages I strolled back through the now officially open (though unfinished) Waitangi Park. It was thronging, what with the art exhibition, skateboarders, cyclists, inline skaters, exhibition visitors and general populace out and about enjoying the late summer (or is it autumn now?) sunshine.
The Wellington waterfront, so long just kind of there is turning into an absolutely fantastic place to be. What the council have done with Waitangi Park is fabulous, even though construction isn’t quite finished yet. I was thrilled to see the excellent facilities for skateboarders and skaters, and enjoyed watching the activity going on there yesterday. One day I may sneak down there early when there should be no-one else around and have at it with my inline skates — they had learner slopes I noticed.
