Discovered because Russell Brown mentioned it at a meeting I attended last night: Refugee Stories Our Politicians Never Tell Us: Shahzad Ghahreman describes his personal experiences during the Iranian revolution and how he and his family have come to live in New Zealand.
We hear far too little from refugees. In fact we hear altogether far too little from the non-dominant culture. This article contributes a useful counterbalance to the ‘other-bashing’ of the mainstream media and the politicians.
It’s presented in an annoyingly narrow column with small text, but just increase the text size and try to ignore the 5-words-per-line jerkiness — it’s a good read.
