It seems to be my month for arts and culture: today I returned to the St James Theatre to attend an afternoon session of Stomp.
I first saw Stomp several years ago at the Events Centre and enjoyed it enormously. Today’s was an equally riveting performance. The two female and six male dancers used brooms, sticks, paper bags, dustbin lids and dustbins, boxes and other ‘building site’ paraphernalia, even including a kitchen sink, to create intricate rhythms and percussion. They drew the audience into games of clapping and stamping, played tricks on one another and us, made us laugh, without uttering a word.
The performance was almost two hours of intense high energy and flawless timing. Excellent!
