Here in Wellington it’s just windy and very wet, but just over the hill in the Wairarapa, and in the Central North Island, things are rough. It’s a good time to be holed up with the heater on.
The storm lashing the lower North Island is continuing forcing homes to be evacuated and closing roads with snow, slips and floodwaters.
Snow has closed the Desert Road. Hundreds of skiers were stranded on Turoa skifield.
In some areas more than two hundred millimetres of rain has already fallen. Heavy rain is also forecast for Manawatu, Rangitikei and Taranaki.
