I was admiring the beautiful sunset last night: a more or less clear sky with a lovely pinkish orangeish ‘glow’ to the southwest that endured for quite a while. It turns out that glow may have been a result of the bushfires plaguing Australia at the moment: Bushfire Smoke Affects NZ:
A climate scientist … says it is very likely the haze which has been seen in various parts of the country has traveled across the Tasman in strong westerly winds. …the reddish-brown haze can be seen in the sky towards evening.
By my reckoning, Australia’s about 2,000 Kilometres away. It just goes to show how far and how fast the atmosphere travels.
